Why I built Golf Expense Tracker

I started playing golf a year ago. When I tell someone that, most of them make the same face. It is small and involuntary and it means: that must cost a fortune. I could not argue with the face, because I was guessing too. I was not tracking anything — I had a rough idea and nothing underneath it.

I am the sort of person who checks the ETA on the map even when I already know the road. I do not need the directions. I just like seeing the number. Golf was the one part of my life where I had no number at all.

I looked for something that would give me one. What I found were budgeting apps built for household finances — general, heavy, and not made for a golfer who simply wants to see how a season actually looked. So I started building Golf Expense Tracker.

The question I really wanted answered arrived while I was building it: if I had bought the annual course package, would I have played enough rounds to justify it? That is not something a rough idea can answer. It needs the actual count.

And when the numbers finally sat in one place, the total was not what I had assumed. Whether it lands higher or lower than you expect is the part you will have to find out for yourself — your year is not my year, and the only number worth having is your own.

Partway through building it I realised it was not only for me. Parents of junior golfers have the same problem on a larger scale — coaching, equipment outgrown every season, travel to tournaments — and far more reason to want to see it clearly.

Most golf apps count your score. GET counts everything else: rounds, courses, lessons, equipment, travel, and yes, what it all adds up to. Not to make you feel anything about the total — just so the numbers are there when you want to look.

What we believe

  • Your data belongs to you — full export and import, always.
  • Simple, honest tools beat cluttered ones.
  • One membership with everything in it beats a free version built to frustrate you into upgrading.

Where we are today

GET is an independent, actively developed application. We read every message that reaches us — through the feedback form in the app, Instagram comments and DMs — and features you see today (lesson package tracking, course fee auto-fill, multi-currency support) came from a real golfer telling us what was missing.
